When you think of bird cages you tend to think of little hanging cages like the old budgie cages, but cages nowadays are nothing like that.

They have all the same facilities, i.e. bars round an inner space with perches and feeding troughs.

The modern cages however are a sight to see, some of them even resemble little houses in design and construction, but obviously see through.

There are cages to sit on top of tables, cages with their own stands, cages that sit in corners. Birds cages come with domed tops, flat tops, pagoda type tops, tops with hinged flaps to open so the bird can come out that way, birds cages on stands with wheels.

There is just an extraordinary selection for any type of bird you want to own, large, small and medium size, indoors and outdoors.

You can also indulge yourself with decorative birds cages, but I wouldn’t advise keeping any bird in one of the antiques.

They could well prove to be very dangerous for a bird because they were probably painted when paint contained lead which can lead to severe neurological damage in birds. Other of the old metals could contain zinc and this leads to bad anemia for birds.

If you put a bird in a cage which has been painted there is no way that you are going to stop them from pecking and they will surely get the toxins into their systems.

Some of the old cages were made from wood or bamboo, and I don’t imagine they would last five minutes if you put an active parakeet or cockatiel in them. They would peck at it until it collapsed around them.

So, if you are in the market for a bird cage of whatever size you will definitely be able to find just the right one for you and your bird.
