Birds Cages Review

Cockatiel Bird Cage

Cockatiel’s may appear to be small birds and they are definitely not large, but they are very active. Therefore when you are buying a cockatiel bird cage it needs to be big enough to allow for all this activity.

It’s a good thing to remember that when you have an active bird, to make sure it keeps fit and healthy you should buy one with as big inside space as you can but do remember to think about the spaces between the bars.

You must always make sure that your bird cannot get his head between the bars because if they do manage to push it through then struggle to get it back again, they could do themselves an injury.

Cockatiels are funny little birds in that they love to mooch about and pick around on the floor of their cage, selecting different pieces of food to eat. They just love doing that so you need to make sure there is plenty of floor area, at least 18″ x 18″ so you can scatter their food around in a good area.

A good thing you should look at is a grated bottom so that any excess food and droppings drop straight through and cleaning is going to be easier plus it will keep the cockatiel’s living space a lot healthier and hygienic environment for him or her.

When you are choosing a cockatiel bird cage you will have a wonderful selection, and always keep in mind that the absolute minimum width needs to be in excess of the birds windspan, i.e. the wings shouldn’t touch either side when stretched out.

Your cockatiel will want toys and they particularly like anything that they can pick up and shake and make a jingling noise, and I would imagine a mirror is always popular with the birds.

You may not know this but when cockatiel’s live in the wild they dare not show if they are unwell because they would be attacked by any predators. So beware, cockatiel’s have genetically learned to conceal their problems for as long as they can.

Always keep your eye on your cockatiel and note if anything seems not quite right because by the time the bird actually looks ill it might be too late. Once they look ill they can go downhill very quickly indeed.

Buy your bird a nice roomy cage and he will be happy and healthy I am sure. Enjoy.
