It has a beautiful wooden framework, on a stand with glass panels instead of bars. Inside there are ample branches and perches for the bird or birds to use, even nesting boxes.

There is plenty of space for the birds to fly about in a totally draft free environment. They get plenty of fresh air and there is a facility for timed lighting.

It only takes around five minutes every other day to keep it beautifully clean. The glass panels open outwards for ease of cleaning, plus there are removable trays for removal of debris.

This type of aviarium has been used for over 25 years in the lobbies of hotels, learning establishments, care homes and hospitals and even funeral homes as a feature of interest. The birds can bring a sense of tranquility to public places.

There are some absolutely beautiful examples of a wood bird cage, but I would like to say here and now that you should avoid a wooden bird cage if you own a parrot because they love to chew wood and the cage wouldn’t last five minutes.

If you feel that your bird would flourish in a wood bird cage and not destroy it easily then you can expect to find examples made from any number of types of wood including Cherry, Oak, Pine, and Maple to name just a few.

It is possible to get a bespoke wood bird cage, but the finish would be something you would have to think long and hard about. Don’t think you can just slap a coat of paint on it, you would have to be very careful that the paint you chose was completely free from toxins.

Your bird will pick and chew at it and if the paint has anything noxious in it then your bird will ingest it and fall ill, perhaps fatally.

I must say here that there are sites online who advertise wooden bird cages and they claim the cages are protected from birds being able to chew or damage the wood. It seems that they are covered on the inside by a wire inner cage, I suppose that makes sense. If you really do want a wooden cage then you should check out these sites online.

Wood isn’t the easiest substance to keep germ-free, germs and bacteria will find their way into the grain of the wood and it will be quite a challenge for you to keep it germ free.

I must warn you most strongly NEVER buy a used wood bird cage because you could be buying yourself a pack of trouble and possibly a health risk to your bird.

You can obviously buy a used wood bird cage if you aren’t going to put a bird in it, if you are going to use it as a decoration, perhaps with flowers or a plant in it.
